Read What Is Happening To 4 Police Officers For Allegedly Killing A High Profile Politician In This State
Following the death of the Sapele politician who was allegedly murdered by police officers, four mobile police officers have been arrested and detained pending investigation to prove their culpability in the death of the politician, Chief Lucky Ayomanor.
Ayomanor was arrested on Wednesday night by police in Sapele when he was discovered to have hidden a revolver in his Volvo jeep and was whisked to the police station where police said he slumped and was rushed to the hospital and died on Wednesday night.
Emerging facts from sources within Sapele community indicate that tension is brewing in the area as youths are sharpening their teeth to take vengeance on the police for allegedly killing a prominent politician in the ancient city.
The source within the Sapele told NAIJ.com that all Okpe people are holding meeting now over the matter as the late politician was a great man in the area.
We learnt that following the discovery that the deceased was a prominent son of the soil, the Divisional Police Officer in Sapele had to arrest the four officers who are allegedly involved in the death of Ayomanor and drove them to the state police command in Asaba, the Delta state capital.
The source said: “Immediately the DPO discovered that the man is a prominent man and seeing the circumstances surrounding the death he had to arrest them and sent them to Asaba.
“There is tension right now in Sapele. Community leaders are holding meeting over the matter. But we are hearing that the police that killed the man are not the regular police in Sapele but mobile police on special duty to the area.
“The issue is very dicey as there are underground reasons behind the murder of the politician in Sapele.”
The state police public relations officer, Andrew Ani Amaka, confirmed the arrest and detention of the four mobile police officers but added that the detention was not a confirmation that they were found guilty by the police authorities.
According to him: “Like In told you yesterday, Ayomanor was accosted on the way and it was found on him that he was carrying a revolver loaded with cartridges. Of course, the need arose to take him to the station.
“He was driving himself, it was discovered that he wasn’t okay. Right then, it was found that life was ebbing out of him and he needed to be taken to the hospital. So, that that is the situation.
“That there was arrest, yes, but that is not to say they have been found guilty. They were arrested because there is need to keep them. You know autopsy is being conducted and we do not want to prejudge matters.”
