Super Eagles Defender Troost-Ekong Eyes Transfer To The Premier League
Super Eagles defender, William Troost-Ekong, has spoken of his desire to return to England.
Troost-Ekong came through the ranks at Tottenham Hotspur, after reportedly snubbing interests from Liverpool and Manchester City.
He later moved to Groningen in 2013. The Nigerian currently plays for Bursaspor in the Turkish Super Lig, after spells with Haegesund and Gent.
“My goal is to return to England. Of course I do not rule out [a return to the Netherlands], but at the moment there is no reason to play football in the Netherlands,” Troost-Ekong told Voetbalzone.Voetbalzone.
“I aim to go to the Premier League and after the World Cup I might have that option. Otherwise I would like to see it in the next three or four years. There were some interests last summer, but there was nothing concrete from the Premier League. Now I notice that there are people who notice as I perform at international level. If I can run a good World Cup and play well, maybe some doors will open.
“That’s the league to play football in. I’ve seen it and come close. Then, of course, also like to join in again.
“I do not have to return to Tottenham so that others can brush my shoes. But I would find it very nice to play against Tottenham in the league. That would be a dream come true for me already.”
