I woke up the next day feeling weak, so I had to visit the clinic to get some drugs. After which, I’d proceed to Gaffar’s. I did all neccessary things while I also got the drugs from the clinic. By the time I was prepared to go see Gaffar, it was past 3. I went anyway, on getting there, the gate man opened the gate while I asked after Gaffar, he told me he wasn’t around.
“This can’t be true”, I said to him.
“This is his car parked here in the compound”, I countered.
” Madam ah say oga no dey” he repeated again.
Wow I’ve now become someone they chase out of the house with lies, I thought to myself.
“Please Garuba, let me see oga, I’ve something very important to say to him, I’m sure you’re serving God and you want God’s mercy to be upon you, please let me see him please” I said almost in tears, as I didn’t know things had turned this way this soon.
“Kai madam, oga he don talk say make hi no let you come, he say he go sack me”, he said.
“But I go do you good because you don do me good” he said smiling and opening his mouth which shows his already brown teeth, having all sort of dirt from the goro he eats all day.
“Okay madam, oga dey for backyard for garden with another madam”.
“What? Another what? Another madam?” I questioned with tears.
“Yes madam, oga dey with another madam. He say make I no disturb am but you fit go meet am for backyard, no tell am say na me give you chance, tell am say I no see me”.
God, what have I done to deserve all these? I wanted to ask who the other madam was but he already went into his apartment.
Is this what life holds for people like me? Is it wrong to have friends? Is it wrong to be a virgin? Is it wrong to be in love, are we all suppose to distrust everybody even a common stranger we see on the road on daily basis? in the bus? in a store? even in a place of worship?
I went to garden but no one seem to be there, could Garuba be playing pranks on me about Gaffar been here. I was about turning back to meet Garuba so I could tell him no one was here when I heard the sound of a female saying “you’re so sweet” in between her laughter. I immediately recognised the voice, tears rolled down my eyes as I couldn’t believe my thoughts. Let me trace the voice so as not to rush into conclusion, I went ahead, I didn’t move too far when I saw Gaffar sitting on the chair while a lady was sitting on his laps, hanging her hands around his neck laughing like she’s in the happiest place in the world. I went closer as they didn’t notice any one was around so I had to move so close in other for them to feel my presence. It was not until I moved closer that I noticed the lady was ADENIKE, my thoughts were right afterall, at this moment my tears couldn’t stop flowing like river. I screamed and called Gaffar before they could realize I was there. They were in a middle of a romance when I called Gaffar, his fingers were in the home of Adenike’s private part while her dress was half pulled which was showing her bra while the dress was hanging on her stomach side, her nipple was about popping out. They both looked relaxed and they stood up when they noticed me. She tried adjusting herself while she leaned chest to chest with Gaffar.
“Oh its you”, he said with so much pettiness.
I felt embarassed as my presence meant nothing to them. At this moment, my tears was uncontrollable but I still wanted to ask him alot of questions. I wanted to ask when he started meeting Adenike, I wanted to ask if he has been meeting her even while he was with me, I wanted to ask if its true what they all said but all I could do was cry because even their presence is enough to make me sad.
“Would you say something or you came here to showcase your stupidity?” Adenike said.
I felt irritated and angry so I moved closer in an attempt to slap some senses into her head when Gaffar stopped me and said;
“look girl, you have no reason to come here to cause trouble cause I got done with you the moment I got into your panties”
“look at you, do you think you stand a chance of being G.money’s girl? I only came to you because they dared me, he confessed.
“Look at you, you don’t even fit my standard, in fact this is more like I lost because I had to clothe you and make you look presentable. I don’t love wretched people but I hate to be dared so honey, you were one of the games”, he added .
I couldn’t cry anymore as I opened my mouth in shock.
“Please if you’re done picking gabbage exit this premisis”, Adenike said.
I couldn’t say a word as I turned to leave with so much shame and embarrassment. Life is cruel.
Time went by so fast, I was already in my final year. I had moved on with life but I still carry that hatred for any guy. Guys tend to irritate me and as such I’ve not dated anyone since then nor have I heard from Kayode.
I was at the supermarket across my area trying to get a little provisons for my aunt. My aunt has been an angel in the lives of my brother and I. She has taken good care of us in this past few years. Even when it felt like the world was crumbling at my feet, she was there for me giving me words of encouragement. Although, she lashed out at me for been that kind of girl but still she said “what will be will be” I love her so much
I was about paying to the cashier when I heard someone say, ‘don’t worry, I’ll foot the bills”. That voice sounds so familiar but I can’t place it. I looked up to see who it was, oh my God, it was Kayode. No way, this man here is no longer the boy I use to know.
“Would you come give me a hug or you’ll stand there looking at me in awe?” He said. I was just there looking all surprised at the kind of man he has turned out to be. He looks handsome and a whole lot of blings hanging around his body. He immediately moved closer to me, pushing me into his body while he hugged me tightly. He smells so nice and that smell spelt money not cheap. He finally got loose of me when he said “look at you, looking all curvy and beautiful. Hmm my Sholape I know those guys have been trying to take my place abi? Don’t worry, tell them their Dad is back,” He said while he chuckled using is hand to tickle my cheek expecting me to chuckle too but it didn’t sound funny to me.
Firstly, I’m schoked to see him after so many months, seeing him brings rise to other question like why does he have so much blings on him, is he into entertainment or what? For all I know, the Kayode I use to know won’t dress irresponsible or make people know his worth through material things. I wanted to ask him where he has been all these years, why didn’t he contact me? What went wrong? How school was and so many things……
“Stop looking at me like you’ve seen a ghost, I’m still the same guy you use to know”, he said.
I gave him a fake smile.
“Where are you headed now?”, he asked
“Well I’m going home, I just came here to get things for my aunt”.
“Okay dear, let me drop you off”, he offered.
What has gone wrong with Kayode?his ride is a car not a motor. It spelt money written over it. Something is definitely wrong, Kayode isn’t the type who uses material things to show his worth. I need to know what is wrong. The drive back to my home was awkward as I was still in shock not because I’ve not seen him in a long time, but because he’s changed so drastically, from the way he talks, to his dress sense and all. He kept talking but all I could do was reply with a smile. We both exchanged numbers and we fixed a date for the next weekend.
“Hello, I’m on my way”,he said over the phone.
“Okay, I’d be waiting for you at the bus stop, I said.
That was kayode’s call. Oh my God I’ve to be fast with all I’m doing so as not to mess things up. I got to the bus stop a little bit late, while his black car was parked beside an eatry. I knocked at the window in other for him to acknowledge my presence. The door came open while I sat shyly beside him.
“Hello”, I said to him.
He replied with a flirty smile.. “Sholape o sa ni pa mi( you won’t kill me)”, he said. “Look at how beautiful you’ve grown to be, I’m happy to have found you again at least, this blessing won’t pass me by” he said in a flirty tone while he touched my cheek.
All I did was to smile at him because I didn’t even know what to say to him.
“I’m sure you’re hungry dear, lets get some thing to eat and then all other things would follow”.
I noded my head in reply. We got to an eatry very close to his area I suppose, we ate in silence while we exchanged glances. I don’t know, something is just so strange about Kayode. I can’t just place it, he kept receiving calls and saying some strange things over the phone. I’ve to know what it is with Kayode.
We got done in no time so we went back to the car to drive to his house. The drive back to his place was really awkward.
“Sholape, have I turned to a total stranger to you?” He asked.
“This one you’re just looking and you’re not saying anything. Don’t worry, you’ll loosen up once I give those lips of yours the light in my lips”, he added.
We got a very big estate, his house was the last on the street.
Oh my God! this house is amazing, I thought to myself. This sure doesn’t look like the house Kayode use to live with his parents.
“Olorun oba, (God) What’s going on in this man’s life?” I asked myself.
We entered the house which was well furnished with highly expensive furniture which spelt fortune. Some guys were also there with their laptops. They all looked extravagant just like Kayode.
God! hope its not what I’m thinking. “Come on in Sholape, these are my guys”, he said .
Greetings were exchanged, while Kayode asked me to follow him to his room.
At this point, I couldn’t hold my thoughts to myself as I was frightened. I moved closer to him, if truly he loved me then, there should be a way I could ask him all that has gone wrong. I was about moving closer to him when he said “wait let me get you something to chill with”.
I didn’t want to look or act uncomfortable so I played along. He left me and went to God knows. I couldn’t stop looking around, alot has changed about him, the room looks like that in five star hotels Every thing seems awkward or is it just me??
Suddenly I felt the urge to urinate, hmm Kayode didn’t show me to the toilet, I should call him, I thought to myself. It wouldn’t be a big deal if I locate the toilet myself, but he knows his house better. I can’t wait for him to come in, I don’t know when he would be coming in. It might seem too forward of me going downstairs to get him to show me to the toilet, let me just give him a call over the phone. Oh no, I ran out of airtime last night. All these thoughts kept pondering in my heart as I didn’t want it to look like I’m suspicious nor do I want to act weird. For all I know, what if its just my thinking playing pranks on me? Kayode might still be a good person Afterall. I can’t hold this let me just call him, I left the room in an attempt to get Kayode downstairs.
“Na the babe be that?” A voice asked
“Yes o, na she”
“She use to be my girlfriend, I loved her a lot then. I swear guys I left her a virgin, I’m sure she’s still a virgin, she promised to keep herself until the day of her wedding”.
Tears rolled down my cheeks as I felt bad about losing my virginity and now my real love is back. I knew he was still a good boy, I was just being nervous
“Well, her decision is good for us, at least, she woukd be our source of wealth”, a voice said.
“Immediately baba asked me to get a virgin, my mind immediately went to her, that’s the only reason why I’m in Nigeria, you know money must be made”, Kayode said
“Yes o money must be made, oya sharply corner her, so we can quickly go to baba, I can’t wait to start spending the dollars” a voice said.
“Guy, ritual is the way. No dulling, there should always be a plan b in a man’s life and this is my own plan b” Kayode added.
What? What? Kayode wants to use me for ritual? No it can’t be. Noo He can’t do something like that. I immediately tip toed to the room I was, I couldn’t stop crying. Why is life so cruel to me? Even Kayode? Why me? I thought he loved me? Will I survive this? How do I leave here?
WILL SHE SURVIVE THIS?
He came in shortly after their conversation, I was terrified and I didn’t know how to act. I didn’t know if I was suppose to raise my voice at him or just pretend like I heard nothing.
God! Why is all these happening to Me? What have I done to deserve all these?
“What’s up Sholape, are you enjoying yourself?” He asked with a smile
Animal, why is he smiling at me, the heart of man is wicked oo.. after all he has said downstairs and what his intention to Me is, he’s still smiling like he wishes me well(thoughts)
“Hmm yeah! I’m enjoying myself”
“Hmmmm Sholape, our love use to be very strong, you know how much we both loved and cherished ourselves, I wish we could go back to how we use to be. I miss you Sholape, I miss your smile, your love, I miss your lips”, he said as he moved closer to me.
I knew he was about to accomplish his goal, oh no! God, what can I do? Is this how my life is going to end? I thought to myself.
He moved closer to me saying; “Sholape kiss me”, he said to me.
I stood there motionless as I didn’t know what to do about this new Kayode here. “Kiss me Sholape”, he ordered again, this time, coming very close to me causing us to exchange breath. “Kiss me Sholape” he said for the first time moving my head up to his for me to obey his order. He was about bringing his lips to mine when I said “Kayode this is not you”.
“What has gone wrong with you? You were not the kid that stood by me at my trying times. You’re not the same guy I use to tell my troubles too, you’re not the same guy who holds me and says the future is bright, you’re not the guy who tells me he would always be here for me, you’re not the guy who told me he was going to study abroad, you’re not the guy who wants to make his parents proud, you’re not the guy who wants his siblings to look up to you” I said with so much tears.
“Stop it sholape! Stop! Stop! Dont torture me” he said with so much tears in his eyes while holding his head as if he was trying to block some things from entering..
“who is this strange being in front of me” I said trying to get the soft part of him. “Stop Sholape, I tried, I tried all I could but death was cruel. It took away my parents in my first year of school. The both of them without sparing none. I was young, my father’s family memeber didn’t help matters as they took my parents property leaving us with nothing to feed on. How would I have taken care of myself and siblings? I had to do what I had to do so I became friends with the guys in other to making a living. They were into internet fraud I learnt so fast and I became a pro in no time. I used the money in taking care of my siblings but as time goes on the money became small so I had to go into robbery. I became the gang leader when the boss died. We’ve robbed alot in Ghana. I’ve been living my life this way but things don’t always get enough. I came back to Nigeria because the crimes I’ve comitted is just too much. When I got here a friend introduced me to an herbalist in other for my wealth to be everlasting. The man told me I need the blood of a virgin. The day I saw you coincidentally I said to myself that my prayer has been answered but looking at you now, I don’t think I can use you”.
I couldn’t say a word as I used my hands to cover my mouth while I cried. How cruel can human be? Kayode use to be my lover, he was going to use me for ritual. I couldn’t even tell him I heard all he said, I couldn’t even ask him why he thought of using me after all the love.
“No no no.. Sholape, you’re still a virgin right?” He asked.
“No I’m not”, I said in a very shaky voice. “No that’s not true, you’re lying to me right? Is it because I told you my story?” “I swear I’m not lying, I lost it to someone years back”.
“You’re lying Sholape”, he said while he pushed me to the bed, immediately raising my dress up.
“Please don’t do this Kayode, this isn’t You, don’t do this please”.
“Sholape I’ve to do what I’ve to do, I don’t wanna be just a random person. I want wealth, fortune, I don’t want this to happen to my children”.
“Kayode please stop this, things can still get better without you being dirty. Have you forgotten nothing last forever? What is going to be your call? How do you want your children’s lives to be?”
“Get out of my house this minute. I don’t ever want to see you. You’re just like every other girl. I knew you were a pretender back then at school. I left you a virgin and I came back meeting you loosed. I’m sorry, I don’t eat reminants”. Get out!
You weren’t gonna make love to me, you were going to use me for ritual, I heard it all and you said it yourself.. Kayode, I broke into uncontrollable tears, as he pushed me out of his room.
